Suicide bomber kills 49 in Pakistan

Islamabad, Jul 9: The explosion of a suicide bomber claimed the lives of at least 49 people in Pakistan's restive tribal belt on Friday, Jul 9.
Atleast 73 others got injured when a motorcycle-borne suicide bomber targeted a government office in a crowded market. The explosive detonated outside the office of the assistant political agent at Yakaghund village in Mohmand Agency. Witnesses said that hundreds of people were present outside the office and in the nearby market at the time of explosion.
Four people died later at the state-run Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, informed Abdul Hamid Afridi, the chief executive of the hospital. The victims of the explosion include women, children and personnel of the Khasadar militia, he said. Eight among the injured are in a serious condition, informed the hospital officials.
The powerful explosion also damaged a prison, some other government offices and dozens of shops. There are chances of some people still buried under the debrisof the damaged buildings, informed the security officers.
Ambulances and heavy machinery were sent to Yakaghund from Peshawar to aid the rescue operations.
